Polish activists launch 'AbortOmat' pill locker in Warsaw
Original: Polish activists launch abortion pill locker to bypass near-total ban
Activists in Warsaw have unveiled an 'AbortOmat', a locker dispensing abortion pills for swift, anonymous collection, in a direct challenge to Poland's near-total ban on abortion. The installation offers women access to medication without travelling abroad or risking prosecution under the country's restrictive laws. Supporters hail it as a novel act of civil disobedience, while it is likely to draw criticism from conservative groups and the government.
Why now: Poland's near-total abortion ban remains highly contested and this new, inventive workaround gives people something fresh to react to.
