Superpowers Race to Put Nuclear Reactors on the Moon
The United States and other major powers are racing to deploy nuclear reactors on the Moon, according to a New York Times report. The push is driven by plans for long-term lunar bases, where nuclear power could supply energy through the two-week lunar night when solar panels are useless. The competition raises questions about rules for lunar territory and resources.
Why now: Renewed geopolitical competition in space, with national plans for lunar nuclear power announced or advancing.
