Japanese reviewer questions Michael Jackson biopic's sanitized portrayal

A reviewer who saw 'Michael,' the new biopic about Michael Jackson's life, at a cinema in Shinjuku, Tokyo, praised the film's music as overwhelming in a theatrical setting but questioned whether the movie is right to present the singer's life in such a clean, flattering light. The review highlights a debate common to music biopics: spectacular live performance sequences versus how honestly a film should depict a complicated life.

Why now: The Michael Jackson biopic is newly in theaters and viewers are debating how fairly it portrays his life.
