The Guardian reports that the UK government quietly abandoned a plan to prepare the English countryside for wildfires. The revelation is drawing criticism online, with commenters highlighting the risks to firefighters, emergency services and rural communities as wildfire threats grow with the climate crisis, and questioning why such preparedness work was dropped without announcement.
Why now: Concerns about climate-driven wildfire risk in England make the scrapped preparedness plan politically sensitive.
