Tories promise a more upbeat party conference than last year
Original: Party conference will be more upbeat than last year, Tories say - but that's not the whole story https://www.theguardian
The Conservative Party conference opens with senior figures insisting the mood will be far more positive than last year's gathering, when the party was reeling from its general election defeat. Reports suggest the upbeat messaging masks deeper tensions, with questions remaining over Kemi Badenoch's leadership and the party's direction in opposition.
Why now: The UK Conservative Party conference is under way and attention is on whether the party can project unity and optimism after a difficult year.
