Almeida marks 5,000 affordable homes delivered in El Cañaveral, Madrid

Original: el cañaveral

Madrid's mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida is presiding over the delivery of new housing in El Cañaveral, an expanding district in the city's southeast where around 5,000 homes have been handed over since he took office. He is using the milestone to promote his administration's housing model, framing it against what he calls the opposition's 'política de grito' of loud criticism without results.

Why now: Housing affordability is a hot political issue in Madrid, and the mayor is showcasing deliveries in El Cañaveral ahead of political debate.
