Statewide Data Center Moratorium Highlights Environmental Concerns
A statewide moratorium on data center construction is drawing attention to the environmental footprint of the industry, including high water and electricity use. Supporters of the pause argue growth must be slowed until impacts are assessed, while data center development is surging across many regions to meet demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Why now: Data center expansion is a growing environmental debate, and a statewide moratorium is a significant policy move.
