Latvia's PM claims election win with Ukraine war looming over vote

Latvian Prime Minister Kulbergs is claiming victory in a parliamentary election overshadowed by the war in neighbouring Ukraine. With 88% of ballots counted, his United List led on 36.6%, ahead of the populist, MAGA-style Latvia First party on 13.4%, which had courted the country's substantial ethnic Russian minority during the campaign.

Why now: The result shapes Latvia's government at a moment of heightened security concerns over Russia's war in Ukraine.
