Senate approves $70 billion immigration enforcement bill
The US Senate has approved a bill providing roughly $70 billion for immigration enforcement. The funding is expected to go toward enforcement operations, detention and border security, though the exact breakdown was not detailed in the initial report. The measure now moves to the next stage of the legislative process, and reaction is likely to divide along party lines over the scale of enforcement spending.
Why now: Immigration enforcement funding is a contentious political issue, and the large price tag is drawing attention.
