Pelosi-backed candidate calls for full arms embargo on Israel

Connie Chan, the California candidate endorsed by Nancy Pelosi to succeed her in Congress, has called for a full US arms embargo on Israel, according to Al Jazeera. The statement is drawing attention because it marks a sharper position on Israel than Pelosi's own record, creating tension within the Democratic Party over Gaza policy ahead of the contest for the San Francisco-area seat.
Why now: The split between Pelosi's endorsement and the candidate's hawkish-on-embargo stance highlights an intra-Democratic rift over Israel policy.
