San Francisco car crime plunges, Flock's role questioned
Original: San Francisco's car crime has plunged. How much credit does Flock deserve?
Car break-ins and vehicle theft in San Francisco have fallen sharply, and debate has broken out over how much of the drop should be credited to Flock, the automated license plate reader company whose cameras are increasingly used by police. Supporters point to the technology's role in tracking stolen cars, while skeptics argue other factors, including changed enforcement policies, are behind the decline.
Why now: The city's dramatic fall in car crime has reignited debate over whether surveillance technology like Flock's cameras deserves the credit.
