New Maps Show Where Himalayan Medicinal Plants May Survive Warming
Original: Maps Reveal Where Threatened Himalayan Medicinal Plants Could Survive Climate Change
Researchers have produced maps identifying areas of the Himalayas where threatened medicinal plant species could persist as the climate changes. The work is aimed at guiding conservation efforts for plants valued in traditional medicine, many of which face shrinking habitats as temperatures rise. The mapping approach highlights potential refuge zones across the mountain region.
Why now: Concern about climate change threatening biodiversity and traditional medicine sources in the Himalayas.
