Ultra-wideband radios in wheelie bins track bin day
Original: Surely you have ultra-wideband radios on your bins too?
A British developer has fitted ultra-wideband radios into his household wheelie bins to solve an everyday problem: remembering whether the bins have actually been put out for collection. Using UWB ranging, the system can tell the difference between a bin still in the garage and one left at the kerb, without cameras or cameras-like privacy concerns. Readers are discussing the project as a clever, over-engineered take on smart-home automation.
Why now: A novel home-automation project combining ultra-wideband hardware with a mundane household chore is drawing attention among tech enthusiasts.
