Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune says Algiers deployed fighter jets to Niger to help thwart what he described as a coup attempt. The reported intervention highlights Algeria's close involvement in its eastern neighbour's affairs and comes amid persistent political instability in the Sahel region. Details about the alleged plot and Niger's response remain limited.
