Two American Airlines Flights Assigned the Same Flight Number
Original: Two American Airlines Flights End Up with the Same Flight Numbers
American Airlines has again operated two flights carrying the same flight number at the same time, according to an aviation news report. Duplicate flight numbers are meant to be avoided because they can confuse air traffic control, dispatchers and passengers tracking aircraft. The word 'again' in the report suggests this is a recurring issue for the airline, drawing criticism from aviation watchers.
Why now: Duplicate flight numbers are a safety-adjacent operational error that aviation enthusiasts and travelers find surprising and alarming.
