The reconstructed VOC ship Batavia has left Amsterdam, carried in a steel support structure across the IJ in a spectacular transport operation. The 17th-century replica is being moved to Lelystad, where it is normally housed. Onlookers gathered to watch the unusual sight of the historic sailing ship travelling over the water in its steel cradle.
