The United Nations: a useful failure
Original: The United Nations: a useful failure It’s a global stage, not a world government
Commentary is framing the United Nations as an institution that consistently falls short of its founding promise, describing it as 'a useful failure' and arguing it functions as a global stage for diplomacy rather than a world government with real coercive power. The debate touches on long-running criticisms of the Security Council's paralysis and the UN's inability to stop major conflicts, while acknowledging the value it still offers as a forum for dialogue between states.
Why now: Criticism of the UN's effectiveness is resurfacing amid ongoing global conflicts the organisation has failed to resolve.
