Seventeen EU Leaders Push Agriculture Priority in Budget Talks
Original: 17 EU Leaders Urge Agriculture Priority in 2028-2034 Budget Talks - News and Statistics
Seventeen EU leaders have called for agriculture to be treated as a priority in negotiations over the bloc's 2028-2034 budget. The joint appeal signals that farm spending will be a contentious issue as member states argue over the next long-term EU financial framework, with governments defending support for their agricultural sectors against competing priorities.
Why now: EU budget negotiations for the 2028-2034 period are underway, and the joint statement by 17 leaders is a significant show of pressure on how farm funds are allocated.
