Croatia use UEFA rule to fill stadium in 'ghost game' against England
Original: kroatien – england
Croatia's match against England is being played as a so-called ghost game, yet the stadium is nearly full. A curious UEFA regulation allows Croatia to declare the fixture closed to the general public while still admitting guests, fans or groups, effectively circumventing the purpose of an empty-ground punishment. German outlets are highlighting the oddity, with readers debating whether the rule undermines fair sporting sanctions.
Why now: The contradiction of a near-full stadium at a closed-door match is drawing attention and criticism of the UEFA rule.
