Brooklyn Museum Curators Say Manga Belongs in Every Museum
Original: The Art of Manga Brooklyn Museum Curators Feel That Manga Deserves a Spot in All Museums
Curators at the Brooklyn Museum argue that manga, Japan's iconic comic art form, deserves recognition and exhibition space in museums worldwide, not just in Japan or dedicated manga institutions. The case is being made as the museum highlights manga as a serious artistic tradition, prompting debate about how museums define art and whose visual cultures belong in major cultural institutions.
Why now: The Brooklyn Museum's advocacy for manga as museum-worthy art is challenging traditional boundaries between popular and fine art.
