Russia threatens nuclear response over Kaliningrad threats
Original: "If you threaten Kaliningrad, we will use nuclear weapons!" Russia
Russian officials are warning that any threat to Kaliningrad, Russia's exclave on the Baltic Sea bordered by NATO members Poland and Lithuania, could trigger a nuclear response. The stark declaration, phrased as 'if you threaten Kaliningrad, we will use nuclear weapons,' has drawn wide attention amid heightened tensions between Moscow and the Western alliance over the militarised region.
Why now: Ongoing Russia-NATO tensions keep Kaliningrad a flashpoint, and blunt nuclear rhetoric about the exclave draws strong public attention.
