Cathy Ladman quip on religion sparks discussion
Original: All religions are the same: # religion is basically guilt, with different holidays. —Cathy Ladman ______________________
A quip attributed to comedian Cathy Ladman — that religion is 'basically guilt, with different holidays' — is being shared and debated online under atheism and faith hashtags. The line plays on the idea that all religions share similar structures of obligation and ritual, framed as a joke. Reactions range from amusement to pushback from believers who see the characterization as reductive.
Why now: The provocative one-liner about religion invites debate between secular and religious users.
