Golfer Tom Kim won gold at the Asian Games, a result that exempts him from South Korea's mandatory military service. The exemption applies to athletes who win gold at the Games, and it resolves a major career question for one of Korea's top young golfers, who plays primarily on the US PGA Tour.
Why now: Winning gold spares him South Korea's compulsory military service, a high-stakes outcome for his professional career.
