India removes Jack Dorsey's BitChat app from App Store

Original: government of India officially removes bitchat from the App Store

The Indian government has officially removed BitChat, the Bluetooth-based offline messaging app created by Jack Dorsey, from Apple's App Store. No detailed public explanation has been given for the removal. The move is drawing attention among privacy advocates and tech observers in India and internationally, given the app's decentralised, internet-free messaging model.

Why now: A government regulator removing a prominent privacy-focused messaging app from a major app store raises questions about censorship and platform policy.
