India, Pakistan players avoid handshakes in Asian Games cricket final
Players from India and Pakistan reportedly avoided handshakes during their cricket final at the Asian Games, reflecting the continuing political tensions between the two countries spilling onto the sporting field. Matches between the arch-rivals always draw intense attention, and the absence of the customary pre- or post-match pleasantries has drawn comment from fans and observers tracking how diplomatic strains shape cricket encounters.
Why now: India-Pakistan cricket matches carry heavy political symbolism, and any sign of hostility between players draws wide attention.
