Former Morning Musume star Reina Tanaka is being called 'Reiwa no Reina' — a nod to the current Japanese imperial era, positioning her as a defining idol of the Reiwa period much as she was for an earlier generation. Fans of Japanese pop are sharing the nickname across social media as the singer and her project continue their activities in the new era.
Why now: Fans are celebrating the former idol's enduring popularity by giving her a new-era nickname.
