The New York Times reports that pen pals are making an unexpected return, driven in part by TikTok creators who match strangers with one another for handwritten correspondence. The trend highlights a growing appetite for slower, more personal communication as a counterweight to constant digital connection. Commenters are sharing their own experiences of finding pen friends online.
Why now: The irony of social platforms reviving analog letter writing is resonating with people seeking more meaningful connection online.
