Tom Kim wins Asian Games gold, earns South Korean military exemption
Original: Tom Kim earns exemption from military service with Asian Games gold
South Korean golfer Tom Kim captured gold at the Asian Games, securing an exemption from South Korea's mandatory military service. The exemption, awarded to athletes who win gold at the games, removes a major career obstacle for the PGA Tour star, who would otherwise have faced a stint in the armed forces during his playing prime.
Why now: The military exemption resolves a looming career question for one of golf's most prominent young stars.
