Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has briefed European partners that Russia intends to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure using up to 1,000 missiles, drones and bombs. According to the warning, the Kremlin's goal is to cut power and heating and set off a humanitarian crisis, and Kyiv is seeking European support in response.

Why now: Renewed mass strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure raise fears of a winter humanitarian crisis and renewed calls for European air-defence and energy support.
