Maui Canoe Club Builds Outdoor Shower Garden

Original: Maui Chapter OFG & Nā Kai ʻEwalu: Canoe Club Shower Garden

The Maui chapter of the Ocean Friendly Gardens program is working with the Nā Kai ʻEwalu canoe club on a shower garden at the club's site. The project pairs native, water-wise landscaping with a rinse station used after paddling, keeping runoff and soap out of the ocean. It is being highlighted as a model for how coastal clubs can green their facilities.

Why now: The collaboration between a conservation group and a traditional canoe club offers a practical example of ocean-friendly landscaping that resonates locally.
