UN warns DRC Ebola outbreak growing exponentially
Original: DRC Ebola outbreak 'growing exponentially,' UN says
The United Nations says the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is expanding at an accelerating rate, describing its growth as exponential. Health officials are racing to contain the spread through contact tracing, vaccinations and treatment centres, but insecurity and limited access to affected areas are complicating the response. Observers warn the situation could deteriorate further without stronger international support.
Why now: A UN warning of exponential growth signals a major deterioration in the outbreak, raising fears of a wider regional health crisis.
