Colorado wildlife officials urge residents to bring pumpkins indoors
Original: Colorado Parks and Wildlife warns residents to bring pumpkins inside
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is telling residents to keep their pumpkins inside, warning that outdoor Halloween decorations can attract bears and other hungry wildlife looking for an easy meal before winter. Officials say carved or whole pumpkins left on porches can draw animals into neighborhoods, creating potentially dangerous encounters for both people and wildlife.
Why now: It is pumpkin season, and wildlife agencies routinely issue such warnings as bears prepare for hibernation and encounter more decorations outdoors.
