Original: Sashem Brey: Watching Your Wallet - FBI warns of Internet Crime Complaint Center impersonations
The FBI is warning the public about scammers posing as the Internet Crime Complaint Center, the agency's own channel for reporting online crime. Fraudsters reportedly use the FBI's name to lend credibility while contacting potential victims. Officials urge people to be cautious and to verify communications before sharing personal or financial information.
Why now: Scammers impersonating an agency people trust for reporting crime is both newsworthy and a genuine risk to consumers.
