Birds are building nests from human rubbish
Original: Birds are building nests with our rubbish. Can we offer them something better? https:// aussie.zone/post/37157865
Birds are increasingly incorporating human litter — plastic, cigarette butts, wire and other discarded materials — into their nests. Discussion focuses on whether people can help by offering safer alternatives, such as leaving out natural nesting materials, and on the risks rubbish poses to chicks through entanglement and poisoning.
Why now: Growing awareness of plastic pollution has extended to how it is affecting wildlife nesting behaviour.
