Trump Seeks Power to Ban Media Outlets from White House Again
Original: Trump seeks ability to again ban media outlets from White House
President Trump is seeking the ability to once again bar media outlets from the White House, reviving a contested approach to press access. The move would allow the administration to exclude news organisations from coverage of the president, a practice that previously drew legal challenges and accusations of punishing unfavourable coverage. Press freedom advocates are expected to oppose any renewed effort to restrict which outlets can access the president.
Why now: The proposed restriction of press access raises press freedom concerns and follows past legal battles over White House exclusions.
