A robotics hobbyist is showing off a design detail from Archimedes, a robot owl built in 2021: its eyes are made from moonstones, which look striking in normal light and double as LED diffusers, producing a soft glow. The build is documented on Hackster.io, and makers are admiring the unusual mix of natural gemstone and electronics.

Why now: A creative combination of natural materials and DIY robotics is delighting the maker community.
