During the Centre-2026 military exercises in Chelyabinsk region, the Russian army practised seizing territory and creating a 'safe zone' on the territory of a neighbouring Central Asian state, Ukrainian media reported. Why now: The scenario suggests Russia is openly rehearsing operations against a Central Asian neighbour, raising alarm about its regional ambitions.
