Latvians vote in election shadowed by drone incursions and Ukraine war
Original: Latvians vote in election in shadow of drone incursions and war in Ukraine
Latvians went to the polls in a parliamentary election held under the shadow of recent Russian drone incursions into NATO airspace and the ongoing war in neighbouring Ukraine. Security and defence spending dominated the campaign, with voters weighing how the Baltic nation of roughly 1.9 million should respond to heightened threats on NATO's eastern flank.
Why now: Recent drone incursions into NATO airspace and the war in Ukraine have made security the central issue as Latvians cast their votes.
