A dog named Otter, who came from the Apsáalooke (Crow) Nation in Montana, was abandoned as a young animal along with her mother and three siblings. The pack of five was struggling to survive for months, and with the Bureau of Indian Affairs reportedly planning to shoot them, someone rounded them up and took them to a shelter in Billings. In October 2022 she was found a year old, starved and underweight, but has since recovered.
Why now: The dramatic rescue of an abandoned dog pack from being shot, and her recovery, is being shared widely.
