A county employee in Florida walked a stretch of public road last month and counted fourteen surveillance cameras, prompting debate over who actually owns and secures such devices. Commenters in cybersecurity circles argue that unmanaged public cameras create risks, since unclear ownership makes it hard to patch vulnerabilities or hold anyone accountable when systems fail or are exploited.
Why now: Growing concern over untracked public surveillance cameras and their cybersecurity risks.
