Germany shut for Day of German Unity Saturday

Original: dag van de duitse eenheid

Saturday marks the Day of German Unity, Germany's national holiday commemorating the 1990 reunification of East and West Germany. Dutch media are reminding cross-border shoppers that German stores will be closed for the day, though petrol stations remain open. Many Dutch residents near the border regularly shop in Germany, so the closure affects typical weekend trips.

Why now: The national holiday falls on a Saturday, closing German shops that Dutch cross-border shoppers normally visit.
