Etihad funding claims put Manchester City defence under scrutiny
Original: united arab emirates
Renewed attention on the United Arab Emirates after reports that Etihad Airways' financial statements appear to contradict Manchester City's defence in its appeal over alleged inflated sponsorship money. Questions are being asked about which clubs benefited from the disputed transfer spending, and about a 2015 statement the airline submitted to the US government.
Why now: New reporting suggesting contradictions between Etihad's statements and Manchester City's legal defence has reignited debate over UAE-linked football finance.
