Iran Hangs Three Men on Drug Charges in Zanjan
Original: Article: Three Men Hanged for Drug Offences in Zanjan
Iran Human Rights reports that three men were executed by hanging in Zanjan prison after being convicted of drug-related offences. The executions add to a sharply rising number of drug-crime executions in Iran in recent months, which rights groups say violate international law, as UN rules reserve the death penalty for the most serious crimes.
Why now: Iran's surge in executions, especially for drug offences, is drawing renewed international human rights criticism.
