Hundreds protest Republican redistricting in Mississippi
Original: Hundreds gather in Mississippi to protest Republican redistricting: ‘This fight is familiar territory’ https://www. theg
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Mississippi to protest a Republican-led redistricting effort, with participants saying 'this fight is familiar territory', a reference to the state's long history of battles over voting rights and electoral maps. The protest comes ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, as redistricting fights intensify across several US states. Organisers and civil rights advocates are framing the maps as an attempt to dilute Black voting power.
Why now: Redistricting battles are escalating nationally ahead of the 2026 midterms, drawing attention to Mississippi's voting rights history.
