Justice Department will not reopen criminal probe of Powell
Original: DOJ will not reopen criminal probe of Powell, Blanche says
The Justice Department will not reopen a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, according to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. The announcement closes the door, for now, on renewed scrutiny of the Fed chair, a matter that had drawn attention given ongoing tensions between the White House and the central bank over interest rate policy.
Why now: Tensions between the Trump administration and the Federal Reserve have made any legal threat against Powell politically charged.
