New York Governor Kathy Hochul said a Cornell University student who reported being raped was 'failed' by the people and institutions obligated to protect her. Her comments put renewed scrutiny on Cornell's handling of the case and on campus safety and reporting procedures. The remarks come amid broader political and public concern over how universities respond to sexual assault complaints.
