NHL romance fiction release draws backlash from fanfic readers

The NHL is releasing its own romance-style fan fiction aimed at fans, but the move is landing badly with romance readers. Wired reports that romance lovers are criticizing the league's officially produced 'hot' fiction, with many arguing it misunderstands the fanfic culture it is imitating and feels corporate rather than authentic.
Why now: The story is circulating because a major sports league entering fanfic territory has sparked backlash from the very romance community it targets.
