Broccoli grows well under magenta solar panels
Researchers report that broccoli can grow successfully beneath semi-transparent magenta solar panels, a finding that points to combining agriculture and solar power on the same land. The tinted panels let through light the crop can use for photosynthesis while generating electricity, and the crop reportedly thrived under them.
Why now: It offers a promising answer to the land-use conflict between food production and solar energy expansion.
