Proposed Florida science standards draw fierce criticism
Original: Proposed new Florida science standards attract fierce criticism
Draft science education standards in Florida are facing strong opposition from critics, including groups concerned about how the state handles topics such as climate change and evolution in classrooms. The National Center for Science Education, which monitors science teaching standards, is among those flagging the proposal, and the backlash has put Florida's curriculum review process back in the public spotlight.
Why now: Ongoing national debates over what science gets taught in public schools have made Florida's standards a flashpoint.
