New York Governor Kathy Hochul said a woman at the centre of an alleged gang-rape case involving Cornell University was failed by the system. The comments, reported by the Guardian, come as the case draws scrutiny of how institutions and authorities responded. Hochul's intervention puts pressure on officials over the handling of the alleged assault.
Why now: The governor's public criticism has made the case a focus of debate over institutional failures in responding to sexual assault
